Choreographed and performed by Alex Baczyński-Jenkins and Carlos Manuel Oliveira. Duration: 20 min. Produced by Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin. Presented at the Musée de la Danse, Rènnes, in February 2010.
The White Tiger is Brightest in the West (WTBW) was a one-time event in response to the availability of the Musée de la Danse, in Rènnes, for showing works by the then graduates of the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin. A duet of invocations, a rite of initiation, WTBW was thought and performed in one day only, after a practice of composition structured throughout the previous months. All occurrences composed draw from the local environment : the sound, the costumes, the movement material; structuring thereby the improvisatory mode of the performance. What then occurred as a whole was a ritualistic performance of images related with other worlds, archaic visions and ghostly matters. An alchemical cauldron of desires, to connect inner and outer spaces.
